The results of a study from Thailand have shown that acupuncture combined with medication can significantly reduce peripheral neuropathy in diabetics. Forty-eight type-2 diabetic patients were divided into two groups. The control group received medication alone (including amitriptyline and vitamin B12), while the experimental group received medication plus acupuncture. Seven main acupuncture points were used: Quchi L.I.-11, Weiguanxiashu M-BW-12, Shenshu BL-23, Guanyuan REN-4, Zusanli ST-36, Hegu L.I.-4 and Sanyinjiao SP-6. The results showed that acupuncture in combination with medication significantly reduced numbness in the lower extremities compared with medication alone.
