Another Cochrane Database systematic review has found insufficient evidence to determine whether acupuncture is effective for controlling menopausal vasomotor symptoms. Sixteen studies, with 1155 women, were eligible for inclusion. Comparing acupuncture with sham acupuncture, the authors found no evidence of a significant difference in their effects on menopausal vasomotor symptoms. However, when comparing acupuncture with no treatment there appeared to be a clear benefit from acupuncture. Acupuncture appeared to be less effective than hormone therapy (HT), which is associated with health risks. The evidence was judged to be of low or very low quality overall.
