A small qualitative study carried out in the UK has found that women treated with acupuncture during labour reported enhanced birthing experiences. Seven healthy women who had been treated with acupuncture by midwives during normal labour participated in semi-structured interviews in the first month after birth. Women treated with acupuncture during labour reported increased satisfaction with regard to both pain relief and positive progress in labour, suggesting that acupuncture should be considered as an additional support for women during childbirth.
